Jeff Martin

Jeff brings over 30 years of coaching experience to CrossFit Brand X, which he owns and operates with his wife, Mikki Martin. Jeff has been CrossFitting since 2003. Since that time has logged countless hours attending and teaching at various CrossFit Training and Specialty Seminars; including, but not limited to, the CrossFit Level One Certificate Course, and the Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, basic barbell, gymnastics, endurance, mobility, nutrition, and CrossPIT specialty seminars.

Jeff remains a CrossFit HQ trainer and holds the distinction of being one of fewer than ten people worldwide have been accorded the title of CrossFit Coach by the founder of CrossFit himself, Greg Glassman.

CrossFit took an evolutionary step forward when Jeff devised the scaling process that made the Workout of the Day accessible to everyone of any level of conditioning or experience. The daily scaling is available from the CrossFit main page by clicking on the Start Here link in the left-hand sidebar.

Jeff also designed the widely used CrossFit Strength Bias programming template, which directly challenges the oft-heard assertion that one needs to train outside of CrossFit to build strength.

Jeff holds six California State Powerlifting records and has coached 15 local athletes to both State and National records.

Jeff’s reputation for understanding and teaching virtuosity of movement made him the obvious choice for Head Judge at the CrossFit Games Southern California Regional qualifiers from 2009 to 2011.

As a result of his chief role in the founding and continued evolution of the international CrossFit Kids program, which includes original creation and ongoing role in content development of the CrossFit Kids Trainer Course, he was named Director of Youth Training for CrossFit Headquarters in 2011. At CrossFit Brand X, Jeff handles all of the programming for the Adult CrossFit and CrossFit Kids Teen and Advanced programs. He is also the Executive Producer of the Varsity Teen Gauntlet Competition Series, which debuted in exhibition form at the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games and has since been held in Ramona, Los Angeles, Canada, England, New Zealand, at the Fit Expo, and at the Arnold Sports Festival.

In addition, Jeff is a USAW Club Coach and USAW Sports and Conditioning Coach. Jeff played collegiate water polo and coached that sport early in his career. He is a fifth-degree Kenpo karate black belt and has attached the distinction of sifu (teacher or master). He is also a KMNTC-certified Krav Maga instructor.
